Your students are in High School now. Are they too cool to hang out with you?
That is a question many parents ask themselves as their children grow into adulthood. The bottom line is it really depends on the child. My older son (and my daughters) both continued to hang out with me as they went through high school and now in college as well. My younger son, however, is a different story. In the comfort of our own home, he refers to me as a geek and nerd. He refuses the dress down wristbands I get him for attending meetings.
I think secretly, however, he is glad to know that we can reach out to the administration and guidance staff and they know exactly who we are (at least sometimes...) AND he know I care about him and how he is doing.
I challenge you to get involved with your child's school. On the surface they may not seem happy but in the long run, it will pay off.
Consider joining the other booster clubs if your child is involved in Band or Sports. Remember, it takes a village to raise a child and you CAN make A.I. a part of that village.
